Mark Sebata AKA Blaq Apollo is an artist & musician living and working in County Galway working in music and video production. Mark began making music in 2006 in Zimbabwe where he received numerous awards including the Bulawayo Da grape vine Top 5 and was nominated as Best Zimbabwe hip hop newcomer in 2012 for his EP Bheka Thina Jo. In his work he uses music to tell stories about the struggles and joys of life. Mark writes in a vernacular combination of English and Ndebele and has performed extensively in Zimbabwe and Ireland including festivals such as Shoko (Zim) and Electric Picnic. He also works as a DJ and graphic designer. In 2021 he was the recipient of a Galway County Council Artist Bursary and an Artist in the Community Scheme Research & Development Award from Create.
Mark is the recipient of A4 Sounds’ We Only Want the Earth Residency Award 3, 2020-2021 in partnership with Create and Movement of Asylum Seekers Ireland (MASI)
