Found marks, oil paint, spray paint, graphite, dust, and charcoal on found dust Sheet, 180 x 198 cm.
Rebecca Bradley takes the theme of In Cahoots With The Earth as a call to action to discuss and explore our intentions to reverse our constant pillaging of the earth and its resourcesfor our own immediate gain. She regards art as a catalyst for intervention and actions that can instigate conversations that stimulate new ways of thinking about the environment and our place in it.
In this series of sculptural paintings Rebecca explores ideas about the gallery space as a view onto a contained landscape. The installation takes references from landscape and art history whilst creating its own visual landscape through layering, placement, and mediated installations.
The use of found materials including re-purposed wood, fabric, stained and re-purposed dust sheets to make paintings introduces the familiar, relatable everyday things and begins a conversation between surfaces, folds, and our conceptions of the agency we imbue on art objects and our surroundings.
Rebecca Bradley
- works in paint and installation to explore ideas about our sense of place and being in the landscape. Recent work investigates the Symbiocene and the need to reconnect with our environments and each other after protracted periods of lockdown and in the face of relentless ecological destruction. She is currently exploring the potential, in her art practice, to instigate and disseminate meaningful debates about the deep social and ecological crisis we find ourselves in. A collective performance with Breaking Ground at IMMA (Sep 2021) & a solo exhibition of experimental painting & sculpture installations at the MTU gallery (September2021)form part of this new body of work, which is detailed in Edge Lands Artist book with an essay by Sarah Kelleher.
