‘I hate what Ireland has become’: a phrase uttered in disgust of Trans people, and equally voiced right back at the rise of the Far Right. This work asks what happens when Trans people take back the narrative. What happens when our words are posed as a remedy to those who despise us?
By databending: converting images to sound, and back again; this work allows Trans voices to be inserted into the image and distort visual representations of negative comments found in Irish spaces. Whether a comment on a YouTube video or a letter to Ministers, the increase in hatred towards Trans people is reaching a fever pitch, and this work seeks to challenge that. This work: our Trans voices; is applied as force, as a mechanism to distort the bigotry held in the field of Irish rhetoric, a field increasingly platforming hatred.
