April Fool's Day attempts to understand the understandable, how someone could be here and in another instance not be here. Material objects are held onto as surrogate memories and project sentiment onto the things people touched last or the clothes they wore as if they were part of that person. Place and time become saturated with memories, the whin bush (gorse) has always been a signifier as it comes into bloom around his anniversary on April 1st. My brother was a motorcycle mechanic and hands filled with sugar is a personal memory from when he would return home from work. He would ask me to pour sugar and washing-up liquid into his oil-stained hands to scrub the oil off. Each drawing in this animation begins with no intention as to where it ends up, sometimes working, sometimes failing. The process of producing almost 700 drawings for this animation created a space for acceptance.

This little T.V Radio has been a small alternative shrine that Brigid has carried with her for 21 years. It holds a significant memory as it was a gift her friend Kevin (18) gave to her brother Sean on his 21st birthday. Kevin & Sean both died from motorcycle accidents in 2002. Brigid explores grief and loss in her work to try and understand her own process of grief. As the years have passed by the materials change but she is still attempting and failing to accept a mammoth loss. This little vintage T.V Radio must have its very own force field around it, as it has defied all odds, being one of the few things that survived the Cathedral Buildings fire in DAS Belfast in 2022.
